The English Shop on Main

One cool, late afternoon, in early winter, I stopped by The English Shop in Saint Charles, Missouri. It is located within the ten block, 200-year-old historical area of Main Street. I was happy to rediscover this charming place.

The English Shop sells British foods and teas and a wide variety of gifts. It has been on Main Street for nearly 30 years and is owned by Eileen Pritchard, a true and proper Englishwoman.

One of the newest features of The English Shop is their 'Tea Corner'. Before continuing on your journey, you can, if you wish, sit and enjoy a cuppa tea and soak up the atmosphere, while enjoying the passersby strolling along this gorgeous historical area.

When in the area, why not experience some history and enjoy the flavor of Great Britain in the confines of The English Shop

An Evening with Mystery Author Claire Applewhite

Have Tea Will Travel was invited quite some time back to a special book signing with St. Louis mystery author, Claire Applewhite, for the launch of her new book, "Candy Cadillac".
Since few things go better with a good mystery than a cup of tea, we were all over it!
The weather proved perfect for the occasion (torrential rainfall, booming thunder, flickering lights and all), and we were happy to enjoy a glass of wine and appetizers while mingling with our fellow "mystery fan bookies".

Where's the Tea?

Well, I had searched high and low for a tea room in the area of Melbourne, Florida.
My daughter lives there, so I'll be visiting the area often.
All the listings in the yellow pages {for 50 mile radius} had since closed. Very disappointing, however, one day I was finishing up a stroll in
Eau Gallie's {pronounced: Oh Galley} Art District, and what should I chance upon but the Garden of Eden Tea Room! Were they open?! To my great joy they were.  {They had just opened 3 months earlier!}

I had somewhere else to be, naturally, so my time was limited. It would have to be a quick visit this time around. I literally ran in, met the owner, Dr. J. Thompson, and got some tea to go!

I was so delighted to have come upon this shop.
Dr. Thompson was very kind. I enjoyed watching her steep the Oolong tea leaves and make the preparations for my order. Learn more about Garden of Eden Wellness Coaching here. I look forward to returning and hope they prosper in their location.
If you are aware of any other great places for tea, let me know.

Splendid steeping,
Viktorija

"A Turtle Story"

© 2013 Have Tea Will Travel

Once again, our little yellow teacup has made it to the shores of Melbourne Beach, FL! On my last visit back in July, I ventured out in the early mornings to search for evidence of the nesting loggerhead turtles that had been there the night before.

This time was different... Not only was the weather milder and my beach walks breezier, there were no nests in sight. Instead, I was left to gather shells and sea glass treasures and imagine where those little turtle hatchlings were now.

One morning I was meandering through downtown Eau Gallie, where I chanced upon an art fair and met local photographer/artist, Carol Hansen - Nature Photography. Her work was stunning - and I got my turtle fix after all!

I left with a few of her smaller prints and will no doubt catch myself gazing at them over a cup of tea, wishing I had been there firsthand to capture the first footsteps of their remarkable journey, as she had.

Happy sipping,
Viktorija

Graham Cave State Park

One rainy day in late fall, we drove to a little known park - Graham Cave State Park,  nestled in the scenic hills above the Loutre River. {located in Montgomery County, Missouri}

Graham Cave State Park was named after, Robert Graham,  the first settler who owned the cave property.

In 1816, Robert Graham bought some bottom land along the Loutre River from Daniel Boone's son, Daniel Morgan Boone, and in 1847 purchased the property that housed the cave.
It remained in the Graham family until it was transferred to the Sate of Missouri in 1964 .

The rain let up long enough for us to walk one of the trails. It was a brisk walk uphill and the views were absolutely gorgeous! The trip back down was more challenging because of the winding paths that had become slick due to the rain. The damp cold air was piercing, making it a perfect day for welcoming a cuppa hot tea.

We'd like to return to this park when the weather is better and see the cave itself for which the park is named.

TEAriffic day to you all,
Viktorija and Aaron

Back Road Exploring

We set out on a dreary, gray, glum, November afternoon, with its penetrating cold dankness and soggy ground in search of our first setting.

We found ourselves traveling some backroads in the areas of Jonesburg, Bellflower, and Prices Branch.

The first location served to whet our creative appetites in such a way that we stormed the car doors to get out! However, being the professionals that we are, we promptly gained our 'composure' and 'focused' on the task at hand.  {Sorry, just couldn't help the puns}

This kind of day called for a few cups of Earl Grey tea.
